A centerpiece of Folger Shakespeare Library’s public programs, Folger Theatre produces an annual season of plays by Shakespeare, his contemporaries, those inspired by him, and other classics in a unique setting—an Elizabethan-styled theater located one block from the nation’s Capitol. Folger Theatre’s innovative stagings have been commended as “breathtakingly original…strikingly contemporary” (Washington City Paper). Led by Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin, Folger Theatre has received nearly 84 nominations and 17 Helen Hayes Awards for excellence in acting, direction, design, and production.
